Biro Doodles and Comic art!
I have a few techniques and styles that I use a lot and lately I have fallen back in love with using a common old ballpoint pen or "Biro". I really enjoy the energetic line and feel of this everyday bit of stationary. I can go at it hard for dynamic energy or light as a feather for subtlety and nuance.
This use of the "Biro" is how I created the comic pages for Tales of the Emotosphere. Examples below.
These are Biro drawings on printer paper. For the book I scanned in these pages and coloured and lettered them in an old version of Photoshop!
Instead of keeping a journal/diary I doodle every day. I never plan what I am doing to draw and it usually ends up being a head of a character I have been shaping of late; me working through ideas but not officially...
My other main technique is using paint markers on either canvas or some sort of board or balsa wood primed with gesso so the paint runs more free and gives a very dense finish. Below is a prime example of this technique. I used an old place mat to paint a picture for my son to put on his wall. Stormtroopers and Daleks...who doesn't love that combo?
STICK IT TO 'EM!
Is not for kids...
...it's a lot of fun tho!
Have a look inside...
Here are a few raw images from my newest project, "Rivals in the Quest". They are straight off the scanner before clean-up and unedited. These are produced using coloured card and acrylic paint pens. A lot of fun!
